What It Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis, also known as excessive sweating, is a condition that affects one-two percent of the entire population. Those who are diagnosed with this condition sweat more frequently than the average person and no trigger is required for the sweating to begin. This means that you could simply be resting and still start sweating excessively. Hyperhidrosis affects everyone differently, however, those affected tend to sweat an abnormal amount in a specific part of the body, or sometimes all over.

There isn’t a singular cause or trigger for hyperhidrosis, however, if you have parents or siblings that suffer from hyperhidrosis then it is likely that you will as well. Historically, experts thought that stress and anxiety played a factor in triggering this condition, however, recent studies suggest that this is not accurate and these issues are actually a result of hyperhidrosis, not the other way around.

The Treatment

Hyperhidrosis can be treated in various ways. Although, before beginning any treatment, you might want to adjust your daily routine or lifestyle to see if this has any effect on your condition. Examples of lifestyle changes include adjusting the clothes you wear to avoid certain synthetic fibres and using a prescription-grade antiperspirant.

If these changes are ineffective, then Botulinum toxin is a common recommendation that is both safe and effective. There are numerous misconceptions surrounding Botulinum toxin, with many people believing it is only useful for cosmetic and anti-wrinkle treatments. In regards to excessive sweating, Botulinum toxin works by artificially blocking the nerve signals responsible for sweating, this will help stop your sweat glands from producing an uncommon amount of sweat.
