The Treatment
Believe it or not, one of the most common reasons for contacting a dermatologist is for the treatment of scars. A scar is a mark, line or hole skin that remains on the skin after a wound has healed.
Scars can be extremely difficult to live with on a daily basis, especially if they are in a visible place or are a telling reminder of a time you’d rather forget. Unfortunately, scars cannot be removed completely, however, this does not mean that their visibility cannot be drastically reduced.
Dermal Fillers such as Juvederm® are well known for their ability to treat visible signs of ageing by adding volume and definition to the skin. However, did you know that Juvederm® could also be used to improve the appearance of scars? Here at La Fuente, we choose to use Juvederm® to help patients reduce the prominence of their scars and to reclaim their lost confidence.
With this treatment, we can help diminish several different types of scar, including acne scars, scars from surgeries or injuries, burn scars and chickenpox scars.
How Does This Work?
At La Fuente, we choose to use Juvederm® for the management of scars. This is inserted into specific areas of the skin via a series of injections. The formula contained within these injections helps to plump out scars and add volume to the skin around them.
This procedure begins with your doctor or dermatologist thoroughly cleansing your skin and deciding which scars are going to be targeted first. The amount of Juvederm® used is dependent on the severity of the scars and how many of these are being treated.
When your treatment commences, a needle will be inserted under the area of skin in question, hyaluronic acid filler is then released into the skin to reduce the appearance of your particular scar. Repeat sessions may be needed to maintain this effect.
Am I Suitable For Treatment?
If you have scars that you find distressing, then Juvederm® Dermal Fillers are likely to be a great solution for you. Unfortunately, this is not always effective for treating more severe scars and patients that are pregnant or breastfeeding will also be unable to undergo this procedure.
Prior to your treatment we ask that you join one of our medical professionals for a consultation. During this time we will discuss what results you can expect to achieve and any anxieties you may have. We will also assess your medical history to determine if you are a suitable candidate for scar treatment.

Does it hurt?
Most patients find this to be pain-free as all Juvederm® Dermal Fillers contain a small amount of anaesthetic within them.
When will results become visible?
You will be able to see visible results straight after the procedure has finished. However, we suggest you schedule follow-up appointments to maintain your results.
How many treatments are required?
The number of treatments required depends on the amount and severity of your scars, however, most patients only require one treatment. In order to maintain your results you may need to visit us more than once.
