The Treatment
The creases at the corners of your mouth, also known as marionette lines, are long vertical lines that begin at the sides of your lips and spread out towards your chin. Their name draws inspiration from the marionette puppets that were famous for their hinged jaws, a prominent feature which often lent them a sad or angry appearance.
Unfortunately, these lines appear in almost everyone as we age, and in some cases, they can begin to form as early as our twenties as this is when then skin starts losing its elasticity. Smoking and certain genetic characteristics can speed up this process, as can long-term sun exposure, stress and an unhealthy diet or lifestyle. Due to the frequency of their occurence, it is no surprise that treatment for marionette lines has become one of the most requested at La Fuente.
How Does Treatment Work?
Juvederm® is a type of Dermal Filler that adds volume to a specific area of your skin with the help of hyaluronic acid. Much like Botulinum toxin, Dermal Fillers are temporary injectables that can diminish the visible signs of ageing, making them the treatment of choice for reducing the prominence of marionette lines, especially if these have only just started to form.
However, unlike Botulinum toxin, Dermal Fillers do not relax your muscles, instead, they plump up the targeted area of skin, mimicking the effects of collagen. The result of this process is the smoothing out of any fine lines or wrinkles and a more youthful appearance. This filler treatment also has the potential to minimise any visible sagginess that may have appeared as a result of your marionette lines.
Am I Suitable For Treatment?
Before your appointment can begin, we ask that patients both old and new join us for a consultation. During this time, we will examine your medical history to determine whether you are suitable for treatment, as well as answer any questions or queries that you might have.
We would not recommend Dermal Fillers or Juvederm® to anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding. You will also be unsuitable for treatment if you are under the age of eighteen.

FAQ's
Does it hurt?
Most patients who join us for this treatment report very minimal discomfort. If you are worried about the treatment being too painful, then you will be pleased to hear that all Juvederm® fillers are made to include a minimal amount of anaesthetic to help make the procedure as comfortable as possible.
When will results become visible?
Although some patients can see visible results straight after their treatment, most patients will not see anything significant until 4 weeks after treatment.
How many treatments are required?
Only 1 treatment is required for patients to achieve their skincare goals, however, as fillers are a temporary treatment we would advise patients to schedule follow-up sessions to maintain these results.
Is there any downtime?
Most patients do not experience any downtime after treatment and are able to return to work almost immediately.
