Smoker’s
Lines

The Treatment

Over time you might find that your skin starts to lose its natural elasticity and that vertical fine lines begin to appear around your lips and mouth. These creases are usually referred to as smoker’s lines.

So named because these tend to affect smokers more frequently, due to the shape these people create with their lips whenever they have a cigarette, smoker’s lines are not actually exclusive to those who smoke. They are also sometimes referred to as lipstick lines because of how this cosmetic product can spread into the unsightly crevices that litter the area around the mouth.

Smoker’s lines are mostly small, unnoticeable and can often go untreated, yet their ability to form in groups is a source of great annoyance to those affected as this can make them extremely difficult to hide – even with the help of makeup and other over-the-counter skincare products!

How Does It Work?

Smoker’s lines take a notoriously long time to form and become visible – this means that they can also take a long time to treat.

The quickest and most effective way of addressing the existence of these lines is with injectables. At La Fuente, we will usually treat smoker’s lines with Dermal Fillers in order to smooth these impressions of age and leave you with a much more youthful appearance.

Dermal Filler treatment is performed by injecting a special solution into a specific area of the skin. This boosts the skin’s supply of hyaluronic acid – a natural substance produced by your body – to add volume to the face and reduce the overall visibility of wrinkles and fine lines.

Am I Suitable For Treatment?

If you have tried over-the-counter products with little success or fancy streamlining and speeding up this process, then our treatment for smoker’s lines will more than likely be beneficial to you.

Almost anyone is suitable for Dermal Fillers, however, there are certain things that can make you ineligible for treatment. These include being pregnant or breastfeeding, having an open wound or skin condition around the treatment area or being under the age of 18.

Prior to treatment, you will be invited to sit down with one of our trained medical professionals for a consultation. During this, we will explore your medical history to see if you are suitable for treatment and also answer any questions you may have.

FAQ's

Does it hurt?

Dermal Fillers are generally well tolerated and the amount of discomfort you will experience is usually minimal, though this does depend on the treatment area. Treatments around the lip and nose tend to be the most painful. If you are worried about this part of your treatment we will be able to provide you with a type of painkiller or anaesthetic cream.

When will I see the results?

Most people can see instant results straight after treatment, however, it can sometimes take up to four weeks for the filler to fully integrate with your tissue.

How many treatments are required?

Usually, only one treatment is required, however, as Dermal Fillers are not permanent you are likely to need top-up treatments after approximately six months in order to maintain your results.
