How Does SkinPen Work?

Like similar procedures, SkinPen works by stimulating tissue remodelling and collagen production by creating thousands of microtraumas across the treatment area. These tiny punctures encourage the skin’s natural healing processes without causing scar tissue to form. What’s unique about this device in particular is that it has been proven to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and facial acne with unrivalled safety and efficiency. This treatment can also be used in conjunction with facials, peels and skin tightening procedures to enhance your results even further. The device itself features a patented single-use needle cartridge and a custom-designed ‘BioSheath’, both of which ensure complete sterilisation and prevent cross-contamination.

SkinPen is special in that it can be used to treat men and women of all skin types, which can’t be said for many alternatives. Yes — SkinPen is the first FDA-cleared microneedling device and is designed with safety and precision in mind. Each treatment uses sterile, single-use needle cartridges to ensure complete hygiene.

This is a minimally invasive procedure and the needles are so fine that the likelihood of you experiencing any serious pain or discomfort during your treatment sessions is highly unlikely.

We would expect to see visible results one month after your first treatment. In fact, the creators of SkinPen highlight that 94% of patients said they saw an improvement in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles at this stage, while 80% of patients noticed a reduction in the prominence of their acne scars after one month. Your results are expected to last up to 6 months after your last session.

As we said, you’ll likely see an improvement in your skin after just one session, but we usually recommend a course of 4-6 treatments to fully take advantage of the capabilities of this device and to see the best results.

We would expect to see some mild inflammation, redness and flaking of the skin after each treatment, but these side effects should subside within a few days and shouldn’t interfere with your schedule. Almost all patients can resume their routine immediately. At the most, you may require 24 hours to let your skin settle before returning to normal activities.
