Semi-permanent makeup enhances natural features and liberates us from time-consuming makeup rituals. The craze began with eyebrow enhancement, but treatments for lips are now gaining popularity. Semi-Permanent Makeup For Lips, sometimes referred to as Lip Blushing, corrects colour and enhances the shape and size of the lips.
Lip Blushing gets its name by blending darker colours around the lip line with softer shades in the middle. Layers of colour are built using pigment, resulting in beautifully contoured lips with an even tone.
How Does Lip Blushing Work?
Semi-permanent makeup treatments use a fine needle to deposit pigment to the most superficial layers of the skin. Using a method called ‘pixelating’, the practitioner dots the pigment to line and shade the lip, achieving a more pronounced shape with an even tone. This process is similar to tattooing, however, Lip Blushing fades over time as the pigment only penetrates 0.2mm deep.
Am I Suitable For Treatment?
Semi-permanent makeup is an effective option for those with asymmetrical lips or an uneven lip tone. Lip Blushing is a great alternative to applying makeup each day and allows the client to choose their preferred colour and shape.
Treatments can be performed on anyone, regardless of age, skin type or skin colour. Prior to treatment, we ask all patients to undergo a consultation with one of our skin care professionals. This allows for a client’s medical history to be assessed so that our specialists can determine whether a particular treatment is a good fit for them.
If you are allergic to the trace metals that may be present in coloured pigments, e.g. nickel or copper, you may not be a suitable candidate for Lip Blushing. It is important to disclose this information when giving your medical history.

Semi-permanent makeup treatments are minimally invasive and virtually pain-free. Clients may experience a slight pressure or scratching sensation during the procedure.
Lips take between 3-7 days to heal. During this time they will darken dramatically before beginning to flake, revealing the desired colour.
Results will be achieved after the first treatment, but we recommend a second ‘touch up’ session 6-8 weeks later.
Lip Blushing can last for several years, however, there are many factors that can speed up the fading process. Oily skin, sun exposure and how well your skin holds the pigment all contribute to how long results will remain visible.
